What is ‘herd immunity’?
'Herd immunity', also known as 'population immunity', is the indirect protection from an infectious disease that happens when a population is immune either through vaccination or immunity developed through previous infection. WHO supports achieving 'herd immunity' through vaccination, not by allowing a disease to spread through any segment of the population, as this would result in unnecessary cases and deaths.

Herd immunity against COVID-19 should be achieved by protecting people through vaccination, not by exposing them to the pathogen that causes the disease. Read the Director-General’s 12 October media briefing speech for more detail. TAKEN FROM WHO Q&A. #Actsfile #COVID-19

"How concerned should we be about the new variants of SARS CoV 2 which cause COVID-19? Is it unusual for viruses to change and mutate? Do vaccines protect against these variants and what can you do to protect yourself? WHO’s Chief Scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan explains in Science in 5" Taken from WHO education and awareness archives.

The first important individual responsibility to contribute to the COVID-19 response is to prevent your own infection. Wear facemask at all times and stick to all the infection prevention measures!

Your second individual responsibility is to observe the prevention measures to ensure that you do not spread the infection to others - should you become infected.

Remember that COVID-19 is still spreading carelessly because the majority of the people spreading infection are asymptomatic! #Actsfile #PeopleEndCOVID19 #TheAfricaWeWant
