SD-WAN: a technology that gives power back to the customer

SD-WAN is the abbreviation for Software-Defined Wide Area Network . This technology is presented as the major new development in the telecommunications market. An SD-WAN facilitates network management by separating the management part from the network part.

Every company must offer its employees a high-performance connection to data . Employees work from different company sites, but also from home or on the move. They use their PC as well as their smartphone. The data is, still in part, stored in data centers or servers hosted in the company. More and more, this data is located in the cloud when it is associated with SaaS applications (Salesforce, Zoho, Office 365,…).

The wide area network (WAN) market is dominated by MPLS VPN solutions from incumbent telecom operators. The cost of these connections increases substantially and weighs heavily on the IT budget. Despite these significant expenses, flows are routed in an inefficient manner, in particular for access to the public cloud. The user experience is often bad.

SD-WAN (Software-Defined Wide Area Network) technology allows resources to be used more efficiently thanks to dynamic routing of flows, improves application access performance while integrating aspects of IT security and offering a centralized management dashboard.
